Welcome
From St. John's Anglican Church

St. John’s Church began on May 25, 2003, when a dozen members of the former St. John the Evangelist Church met at Dot Pickel’s home to reestablish an Anglican presence in the Greensboro, North Carolina, area.  After a short period of meeting at Dot’s home, the group moved into an office park suite. During which time at the office park, Father Ray Unterburger from Saint Michael’s, Charlotte, traveled to Greensboro to celebrate the Eucharist every other Sunday with the congregation having lay led Morning Prayer on the off Sunday.

St. John’s held its first Eucharist on March 21, 2004, at our present location, the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection, with Father Don Edelman celebrating.  Father Don supplied the congregation until May of 2006 when Father Peter Brewer became the first Vicar after he and his wife, Lilianne, moved from Atlanta.  Father Sam Steere and his wife, Sandy, moved from the REC Church of the Holy Communion, Dallas, Texas, in mid 2006 for business and family reasons and assists.  Father Mark Menees  was ordained to the Holy Priesthood in May, 2009, and serves as our Curate along with his full-time position as head of Pastoral Services for the Twin Lakes Community in Burlington.

Although St. John’s Church is still officially a mission it has the feel and energy of a full parish with active study programs for our parishioners and outreach efforts to the community.  Among other activities we support the food pantry at St. Paul’s Roman Catholic Church and  has, through our active Anglican Church Women organization, provided blankets, food and other aid to the Newcomers School, a facility that teaches English and American culture to immigrant children and their families.

We have an active choir and organist that does a beautiful job of enhancing our Sunday Eucharist.

St. John’s has grown from the original twelve members to over sixty. We have gone from one Sunday service to an additional service on Wednesday evening.

The Wednesday Evening Service is followed by a “bring your own sack supper” and an active discussion group which meets from September through June.  Check our Happening This Week link for our current activities.

St. John’s has grown both in numbers and in the love of God and is now an established presence in Greensboro and in the surrounding communities.

Beginning in October of this year, 2010, St. John’s has been linked with All Souls Church in Asheboro, as joined mission parishes.  This means that both congregations share common clergy and administrative functions. Father Peter and Father Mark provide ministry to All Souls while Father Peter, Father Mark and Father Sam rotate services at St. John’s.
